How do I download a tl;dv recording?

Short answer: Open the meeting in your tl;dv library and click Download to save it as an MP4. tl;dv says both the recording's owner and the person downloading need a Pro or Enterprise plan, plus editor or admin rights. Free-plan recordings can only be downloaded in the 4 weeks before their deletion, and there is no bulk download.

Steps

  1. Open your tl;dv library and open the recording.
  2. Click the Download button at the top of the meeting page. The file is an MP4; tl;dv suggests opening it with a player such as VLC.
  3. If the button is missing, check the three conditions below.

Who can download

ConditionWhat tl;dv says
PlanBoth the recording owner and the downloader must have a Pro or Enterprise plan (tl;dv).
Access levelThe downloader needs editor or admin rights for the meeting, even if it's public (tl;dv).
Free-plan recordingsStored for 3 months. You're notified 4 weeks before deletion and can download them then; outside that window they can't be downloaded, even by a Pro user (tl;dv).
ClipsClips can't be downloaded, even on Pro (tl;dv).

Downloading many recordings

tl;dv's help center says: "Right now, we don't support bulk downloads or exports" (tl;dv). For many recordings, the API has a GET /v1alpha1/meetings/{meetingId}/download endpoint that redirects to a signed URL valid for 6 hours. API access depends on the meeting organizer's plan: Pro, Business and Enterprise meetings yes, Free meetings no (tl;dv API). The API is labeled alpha, so endpoints may change.

Transcripts are a separate job

MinuteHaul doesn't download video. It exports transcripts, which tl;dv also can't download in bulk: see how to bulk export tl;dv transcripts and how to back up your tl;dv meetings.

Need every tl;dv transcript as files? Paste your tl;dv API key into the MinuteHaul web exporter. It uses tl;dv's official API from your browser and builds one ZIP: a Markdown file per meeting, an index.csv and an optional all-transcripts.txt. Your 10 most recent meetings are free.
