MinuteHaul / Guides / Delete Fireflies, keep your transcripts
Before you delete Fireflies: save every transcript
Short answer: deleting your Fireflies account deactivates it right away, and Fireflies permanently erases the account and its data 30 days later; after that it can't be recovered (Fireflies guide). Cancelling a subscription is different: it only drops you to the Free plan and your meetings stay (Fireflies guide). So if you want to delete, export every transcript first. This page shows three ways and a checklist.
Cancel vs delete: what happens to your transcripts
| Cancel subscription | Delete account | |
|---|---|---|
| When it takes effect | Paid features run to the end of the billing cycle, then the account switches to Free | Account is deactivated immediately |
| Your meetings and transcripts | Stay accessible within Free plan limits | Permanently deleted after a 30-day grace period |
| Can you undo it? | Resubscribe any time | Only by contacting support within the 30 days |

Three ways to save everything before you delete
1. Fireflies' account data export (everything, 1 to 2 days)
Fireflies says it supports full data exports for all users on request: fill in the data request form, approve the confirmation email, and within 24 to 48 hours you get a link to a ZIP with your meetings' transcripts (TXT, with speakers), AI summaries, audio, video where available, attendee details and JSON metadata. The link is valid for 7 days (Fireflies guide). This is the only route that also includes recordings, so request it before you delete and download it as soon as it arrives.
2. Download meetings one at a time (Pro or higher)
On a paid plan each meeting downloads as PDF, DOCX, SRT, CSV, JSON or MD; Fireflies says downloads need Pro or higher (Fireflies guide). Fine for a handful of meetings, slow for hundreds.
3. The API, or MinuteHaul on top of it (minutes, no code)
Every plan gets API access; the Free plan allows 30 requests a minute and 500 a day (Fireflies API limits). MinuteHaul's web exporter uses one request per meeting, so on Free roughly 490 meetings fit in one UTC day; for larger accounts, export by date range over several days. Details: Fireflies API key and rate limits. MinuteHaul exports transcripts (plus Fireflies' overview, action items and keywords if you tick that box), not audio or video.
The Fireflies source in MinuteHaul is in beta. It's built on Fireflies' documented API; if anything looks wrong with your account, email us and we'll fix it or refund you.
Export every Fireflies transcript in one ZIP first. Pick Fireflies in the MinuteHaul web exporter (beta). It uses Fireflies' official API from your browser and works on the Free plan: one Markdown file per meeting, an index.csv and a combined all-transcripts.txt. Your 10 most recent meetings are free. Buy unlimited: $29 one-time with a 14-day money-back guarantee.
Checklist before you click Delete
- Request the Fireflies data export if you want recordings, and wait for the email.
- Export transcripts as files (MinuteHaul ZIP or your own API script) so you have a searchable copy right away.
- Check the counts: compare the rows in
index.csvwith the number of meetings in Fireflies. - Open a few files and make sure speakers and timestamps are there.
- Store the archive somewhere you control (your drive, Notion or Obsidian).
- Remove your API key from anything that used it, then delete the account under Settings, Account, Delete my account (Fireflies guide).
- Changed your mind? Contact Fireflies support within 30 days.
