How to export Fireflies transcripts as Markdown (and into Obsidian)
Short answer: Fireflies' own per-meeting download includes Markdown on Pro and above, but only one meeting at a time (Fireflies guide). To get your whole history as Markdown files, one per meeting with speakers and timestamps, export through the Fireflies API. That works on every plan, and MinuteHaul's web exporter does it in your browser without code (beta).
What the Markdown export looks like
transcripts/: one.mdfile per meeting. Each starts with the title and date, then the transcript with speaker names and timestamps. Tick the summary box to add Fireflies' overview, action items and keywords to each file.index.csv: one row per meeting with title, date and participants, handy for sorting or a database view.all-transcripts.txt: every meeting in one file for AI tools, split into parts above about 400,000 words.
How to export (about two minutes to start)
- Copy your Fireflies API key from Integrations, then Fireflies API (Fireflies docs).
- Open the exporter with Fireflies selected, paste the key and optionally choose a date range.
- Start the export and save the ZIP. It takes about one API request per meeting; the Free plan allows 500 a day and paid plans more (Fireflies API limits).
Put it in Obsidian
An Obsidian vault is a folder of Markdown files, so the export drops straight in:
- Unzip and move the
transcripts/folder into your vault, for example asMeetings/Fireflies. - Obsidian indexes the files right away, so full-text search covers every meeting.
- Link meetings from your project or people notes with normal
[[wikilinks]]to the file names.
The same folder works in other Markdown tools (Logseq, VS Code, a Git repo) and for importing into Notion, which accepts Markdown files.
Why Markdown instead of PDF or DOCX
Markdown is plain text: it stays searchable, diffs cleanly in Git, opens in any editor, and AI tools read it without conversion. It's the safest long-term format for a meeting archive you control.
